Why we’re profiling her: Austin Kitchen is a health and fitness icon in Richmond, Virginia (the hometown of Health Warrior). She is a long-time Health Warrior brand ambassador and has spread the superfood love immensely. Austin is a true warrior, fighting the good fight every day and continuously bringing more people along with her.
What is your health story?
“In 2015 I was diagnosed with early stages of an invasive cancer. After undergoing a number of surgeries, I was cancer free and beyond grateful for my health. What better way to celebrate a healthy body than by making a major lifestyle change? I realized my body needed a major detox from processed foods, artificial sugars and negative energies. I started posting my food and fitness routine on my personal Instagram, which spurred friends asking me for recipes and fitness tips. In January 2017 I started @RVAFitFoodie to share my journey. There’s so much more to @RVAFitFoodie than blog posts, food pictures and followers. It’s a support system for my growing community to stay balanced and connected. People from all over the world interact with me on a daily basis to discuss their health struggles, goals and ambitions, so I guess you could say I have 10,000+ accountabili-buddies.
What is your favorite Health Warrior bar and when do you like to eat them?
“It’s a tie between the Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Seed Bar and Dark Chocolate Chia Seed Bar, because who doesn’t love dark chocolate covered nuts? I love to devour them as an afternoon snack but let’s be honest; I can’t wait that long in the day so it’s right after lunch. Battling my constant sweet tooth is a struggle.”
When did you try your first Health Warrior Bar?
“I was first introduced to a Chia Bar when I invited Health Warrior’s CFO Austin Harris to speak to the growing health scene in Richmond at one of my work events. He brought boxes of Health Warrior Chia Bars for everyone and I ended up sneaking one home to keep for myself. I was training for a half marathon at the time and they were crucial to curbing my afternoon, low-energy, slumps. I was hooked from that moment forward.”
Got any workout tips?
“Get sh*t done. Don’t be afraid to sweat, feel uncomfortable and push yourself. My best workouts happen when I think I can’t go any harder… and then I do and surprise myself. It’s the little wins that keep me motivated towards my overall goal.”
When do you feel most like a warrior?
“When I jump onto the bike at BOHO Cycle Studio to teach a class. Energy is high, music vibes are on point and it’s my job to help each rider feel like a badass. There are no words to describe the feeling of motivating others to challenge themselves to the limit.”
What’s one fun fact about you?
“I have to eat something sweet after every meal. I’m not sure if it’s a blessing or a curse but let’s go with a blessing. Dark chocolate dipped in almond butter is my ish. The perfect duo.”
Current workout pump up jam?
“‘HUMBLE.’ By Kendrick Lamar… it gets me in the mode to kick some booty.”
What’s the last book you read?
“Eating On The Wild Side: The Missing link to Optimum Health by Jo Robinson. Reading this book was life changing when it comes to cooking produce. It gives you all the tips to selecting, cooking and getting the most nutrients from all of your fruits and veggies. GO READ IT, you won’t be disappointed!”
