Superfood Profile: Acai Bowl

Acai berry bowls are all the rage for two reasons. 1) Acai berries are packed with antioxidants. 2) It’s nearly impossible to find a whole acai berry outside of the Amazonian forests to which they are native. Acai berries have a very short shelf life and are mostly exported in the form of frozen fruit puree or dried powder. For this reason, they make great smoothie bowl additions!

Acai berries are packed with antioxidants, even more than blueberries or cranberries. They contain one antioxidant called anthocyanin which gives them their deep purple color and supports healthy cholesterol levels. These plant compounds also may counteract the damaging effects of inflammation. Combine that with healthy fat and fiber and acai berries are a true superfood.

We packed these berries into our Acai Berry Chia Bar for a super-convenient superfood snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack acai puree
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 handful frozen berries
  • 3-4 tbsp rolled oats
  • 2/3 cup almond milk
  • 1 tsp maple syrup

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Garnish with your favorite superfoods and enjoy!
