As the New Year begins, we will hear a lot of people talking about “New Year, New Me.” This usually means they will start a restrictive diet, go to the gym 5 days a week, and set a “goal” weight. However, New Years Resolutions don’t need to be this way at all.

Don’t Diet
As a Mindful and Intuitive Eating Dietitian, I recommend to my clients to look at the big picture. Is omitting the foods you love and becoming a slave to the gym what your true goal really is? I can guarantee almost everyone would agree that it is not. Instead, it is about simply creating lifelong habits, while allowing your body to depict the foods it desires and the movement it needs on a daily basis.

I encourage my clients to cook nutrient-dense foods in bulk weekly, such as veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins. They can create different meals daily based on what is already in their fridge or freezer, without feeling deprived, and still incorporate all the foods they love into their diet regimen.

Make Your Snacks Count
Snacks are also an important part of a healthy regimen. Keeping snacks on hand can help nourish you in between meals. Snacks can also help you avoid becoming over-hungry, which may lead to mindless eating and eating passed your fullness level.

When choosing snacks, the most important thing to remember is to find snacks that satisfy you. I, myself, love snack foods that contain both sweet and savory flavors and crunchy but chewy textures, such as Health Warrior’s Pumpkin Seed Bars.

Health Warrior’s Pumpkin Seed Bars not only have delicious flavors – such as Cinnamon Spice, Dark Chocolate, and Honey Cracked Pepper with Turmeric – but are also packed full of nutrition.  The entire bar variety contains 8g of plant-based protein and superfood ingredients, such as milled quinoa, dark chocolate, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and of course pumpkin seeds. These bars make the perfect delicious and satisfying snack to feed you when you need it most.

So with the 2018 coming upon us, don’t think about “New Year, New Me.” Instead, simply think “New Year, Beautiful Me” and create the habits that best fit you! Move your body the way it desires, eat the foods you love, and make snacking fun. Keep these tips in mind and you will never feel like you will need a “weight loss” resolution again.
